In 1922, Wallace Hardware's predecessor, Whittaker-Holtsinger  Company was founded by Mr. W.B.Whittaker and Mr. Sam Holtsinger. Mr. D.M. Wallace, father of the current owner, joined the company at its inception and obtained the position of president in 1932 upon the death of W.B. Whittaker.

The Wallace family acquired control of the company in 1936; however, the company retained its original name until 1944 when it was renamed Wallace Hardware Company. Mr. D.M. Wallace served as president until his death in 1955. His brother, Mr. J.G. Wallace, served in that capacity until Mr. John D. Wallace assumed the office in 1959.

In planning for the future of the company, Mr. Wallace announced on December 27, 2002 his appointment of Stanley Snowden as president and CEO of Wallace Hardware. Stanley is no stranger to Wallace Hardware having served as Senior Vice-President of the company as well as CEO of a sister company, Walker's Supply for several years. As a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Snowden brings many unique abilities and an intuitive leadership style that will direct the company's continued growth.

John Wallace started with the company on a part-time basis in  1936 at the age of eight. During his tenure, the Wallace group of companies have grown to over $100 million in annual sales. He has actively contributed his time and talents within the company since. His abilities are evident in his many accolades and awards of achievement he has received. Third generation family members are active in the business today in various aspects of the company's management and operation.

In its early years, the Wallace Hardware salesperson traveled oftentimes by horseback, collecting orders and mailing them to the home office for processing. The merchandise was then picked, packed and delivered by wagon, truck or rail to its destination. All functions were performed in a single building that soon required growth and expansion. After several acquisitions and purchases of other properties, development for a new 150,000 square foot warehouse began in 1963. Wallace continued its expansion with an addition to the warehouse in 1988, a lumberyard in 1997, and a new sales office in 1998. It acquired certain assets and the sales force of C.H. Miller of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania in February, 1999.

Wallace Hardware joined the PRO Group, a national buying group, in 1963 as their fourth participating distributor. Wallace Hardware continues to support the group's efforts through the PRO, Farm Mart, Golden Link, Proven Brands, and Rental Stop marketing programs.

Wallace Hardware strives to be a Christian organization which projects a positive and motivating witness. It wants to stand for the values and principles of the highest order in honesty, integrity, and witness by example. It is noted for its friendly people. It has various programs and services, including two annual trade shows that give it the ability to offer its customers the highest level of service available from any hardlines distributor.

Wallace Hardware is committed to continuing those ideals, attitudes, standards, and services on which long lasting relationships, through partnerships, will stand the test of time.
